Guardian Jobs-
ReplyDeleteThis site allows you to search the Guardian classified ads for types of jobs and location. The service is free and is one of the most reliable sources for many many job postings. My favourite thing about the site is the 'Browse' function that allows you to filter results by category (i.e. charity, fundraising, research), salary level, location, and full or part time. The only downside to the site is that some recruiting agencies post jobs but hide the employers names. Overall, I would highly recommend Guardian Jobs for anyone searching for a job.

Charity Jobs
ReplyDeleteThis web site allows you to search a charity job, a NGO job or a non for profit job classified by category, location and sector. Therefore, there is a separate section dedicated to fundraising jobs.
It is the leading UK job searcher web page for the charity sector and ads both from big and small charities are published. The service is free but you have to sign in if you want to apply for an advertised job.
I like the matchmaker option that allows you to look for a job matching different features – category, location, sector, salary and contract. Moreover, I like the fact that you can have your own charity jobs page where saving jobs you are interested in.
On the negative side, the site is UK focused and there are few international opportunities. The training section contains little useful information.
In conclusion, I think it is a highly useful service for people searching a charity job in the UK.

One World Jobs
ReplyDeleteOne World Jobs is a site dedicated to jobs in human rights, environment, and sustainable development worldwide.
You can view the job postings on the One World website or register for free to receive weekly job vacancy emails.
Standard information is given for each job (description, location, salary, deadline, etc.) and there is always a link to the organisation posting the information, and whose own site might contain more detailed information about the role, or indeed other roles that haven’t yet appeared on the One World site.
I have often used the site to get an idea of the type of job I could apply for, or the type of work that various international NGOs are doing. Often the jobs posted are international, short term and/or emergency posts.
Whilst I would recommend One World jobs for anyone looking for ethical, development or human rights jobs in the Third Sector, it is worth noting that it is mainly used by large and established NGOs, not smaller or community based charities.

ReplyDeleteThis is the official Government web site for the whole of the country and widely used by employers to find staff quickly and efficiently. The name of the site frequently changes as does the software and methods of searching.
Jobs are categorised by area, by trade, by date etc. One facility will allow only jobs in a certain area to be shown and will give the latest jobs on the system first to save ploughing through.
Jobs are categorised by type of work, ie, retail, administration, legal but some employers prefer not to give their details direct and this means telephoning an office
to find out further information on how to apply at a premium rate phone call.
The best features of the site are that jobs put on the site in the morning can be filled in the afternoon. This applies to temporary or permanent work. Job descriptions are very accurate but frequently on going for the interview you can find the work is not altogether suitable. Sometimes the pay rates are not quoted.
I like the site because it is reasonably straight forward and easily accessible. The downside of the site is that the advertisements seem to be very old at times, failing to remove them even after several months. Also, with Government holidays, the advertisements just pile up and nothing new is put on the site until the holiday is over.
Frequently e-mail addresses and contact details are mis-spelt or unclear.

The webpage for totaljob.com I like as it is not too busy for the eye with clear navigation tools throughout i.e. vacancies within 5 miles, upload your CV, get headhunted, jobs by email and store your CV and covering letter with them so you’ll be able to apply for jobs with just one click.

ReplyDeleteThe best of it, is that you can post your CV and has Career Tools to explore new opportunities, help CV, templates, cover letter examples, job search tips, interview guidelines, fitting into new team, etc.
I dislike it, because its browse when looking for new jobs is not straightaway to take the points you are looking, you have to click one browser to another.
My overall comment for the site is a good website, as you can search new jobs available in your own area or the area you are interested to work. It can give you advice all the way to get the job you are looking and to control your career.

ReplyDeleteThis site allows users to find current vacancies at government departments, executive agencies and certain non-departmental public bodies. I liked the easy-to-use search facility. The results are not exhaustive, because most vacancies are only ever circulated internally, i.e. within the government departments and their agencies. Overall, I would not recommend this site to anyone other than for general interest.

The Third Sector Job is an clear and easy job website to browse by location, job function and by salary. The best feature of the site is that you can find all types of jobs in the third sector in it be it in finance, volunteering and name it. However the site is dominated by the usual suspects in the third sector namely OXFAM, Save the children Fund, UNICEF etc. I recommend the site.
